Mashes
Emerald Valley Mashes
TAKE THE BRAN OUT OF YOUR MASH. Internationally acclaimed Speedi-Beet and Fibre-Beet have helped pave the
way to a new understanding of equine nutrition. Low in sugar and low starch,
Speedi-Beet and Fiber-Beet can now be found in numerous feeds and treats
like Emerald Valley’s Beet Treats, SuperMash, SavvyMash and now
SpookyMash. Created by Emerald Valley, our mashes have been designed
as both a treat and a nutritionally superior feed. The combination of oil,
sugars and fibers has been calculated to give the correct energy profile for
the horse.
Sugars, including starch, sucrose and fructose, are limited to ensure minimal
amounts reach the hindgut to avoid negative fermentation products. The
fiber levels, however, are high and encompass the optimum profile of
celluloses, pectins and soluble fibers. This allows fermentation to occur
along the whole of the digestive tract, which encourages growth of the right
microbes throughout the tract, the probiotic effect. SuperMash, SavvyMash
and SpookyMash provide both rapid and slow release energy, optimizing
bio-chemical pathways.
“When you've spent so long getting your feeding regime right, don't jeopardize it with a high starch mash. High fiber mashes, made with Speedi-Beet & Fibre-Beet, will supply everything you need to treat your horse without upsetting his hindgut.”

Emerald Valley has “taken the bran out of the mash” and structured our
mashes to give a balanced treat for any horse. Mashes are ideal for the horse
as the water improves digestibility and gut flow to a greater degree than a dry
feed. Hot mashes warm the body core and so help maintain condition in cold
weather. The highly palatable mix of ingredients will fit into any feeding
program without disrupting nutrient balance, and so can be fed at any time to
improve digestibility and hydration.
When you look at a treat, look at the ingredients. Herbs, spices, apple, carrots
— these are great. They are present in reasonable levels and the passage
through the small intestine will sort them out. It is the major ingredients. High
starch and sugary treats need to be considered carefully, especially in relation
to what you are currently feeding. On the other hand, choose a fiber based
treat. It’s what the horse is designed to eat and will ensure that the starch load
is low.
